About OGA

Founded in 1978, the Oregon Gymnastics Academy is a non-profit

501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing quality gymnastics programs to individuals of all ages and abilities.

OGA currently serves over 1200 children in the Portland Metro area.  Our state of the art facility was recently expanded by an additional 9,000 square feet to keep pace with our growing membership.

OGA offers gymnastics instruction to children in all areas, including preschool, recreation, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, tumbling & trampoline, and cheer-tumbling. OGA also has highly successful competitive team programs for both boys and girls.

In addition, OGA offers gymnastics classes to children with Special Needs. Through this innovative program our students increase their self-esteem and confidence as they meet goals, achieve challenges, and discover strengths that are not addressed in the traditional classroom setting. Further, our unique equipment-such as trampolines and foam pits-aid in facilitating the development of all motor skills, including jumping, coordination, balance, and overall body awareness.  Additionally, each year OGA partners with the Special Olympics of Oregon to host the Oregon State Games.

In 2010 OGA launched a mobile Outreach Program.  The program was developed to provide at-risk/low-income youth the opportunity to participate in the sport of gymnastics, encouraging both physical and psychological development and promoting an overall sense of well-being.

Throughout the year we have a wide variety of other activities as well. We offer day camps during school breaks, summer and on days our local schools are not in session. All of our camps include themes such as science, animals, art & music, sports, and of course include gymnastics instruction.

OGA has a tuition assistance program for those in need. It is our desire to turn no one away due to a financial hardship.

We are one of the founding members of a national organization called Character Counts! supporting and teaching the "6 pillars" of character, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. As part of our community service and in conjunction with Character Counts! we sponsor several opportunities for our membership to give back to the community.

Organization of OGA

Parents of children in OGA programs are all members of a nonprofit corporation. Additionally, any member of the community who wants to further the purposes of OGA may become a member. OGA is a tax exempt, nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The OGA Corporation owns all the gym equipment and the gym operation. The day-to-day operation of the facility is in the capable hands of our professional paid staff, with policy set by a volunteer Board of Directors.

There are nine positions on the Board of Directors, and elections are held at an annual meeting each spring. Parents are always encouraged to attend the board meetings. In addition, a binder containing Board meeting minutes is available in the office for all parents to keep informed of Board activities. As members, we have various opportunities for input concerning the specifics of the organization.
